Fashion Trends for Spring
Fashion Trends for Spring
So Winter is over and that means saying goodbye to some of the trends we've been used to for the last while. I personally LOVE Winter fashion (more so than Spring / Summer fashion) so it'll be a terribly upsetting time for me :(

But the trends from the catwalks are beginning to translate over to the high street brands in all their new Springy-Summery collections, and this is what seems we'll have to put up with looking at in the shops for the next few months! So far Topshop have a wonderful fashion trend section on their website that helps you find your own key pieces for this season which I'll include links to.

Now I'm not someone who believes CATWALK DICTATES ALL when it comes to fashion. If I like something, I wear it. But it's impossible to deny that what happens on the runway influences the high street, and in turn influences our choice. So I like to keep track.

I'm pleasantly surprised. There are some looks I'd go for, and some I won't. Anyway, make your own mind up and check these 10 trends for Spring and Summer 2013!
Images are not my own.

1) Sheer

This year on the catwalks, lots of flowy, sheer, meshy fabrics were used. Obviously you aren't going to wear a TOTALLY SEE THROUGH outfit, but when the weather is warmer it's a smart idea to go for a semi-sheer look, where parts of your outfit are mesh material and others are solid. This is practical and fashionable. Try wearing a sheer top over another top, maybe even a crop top to combine two key trends for this season.

2) Animals

Animals made an appearance in fashion during the Winter months, and it seems like this trend will continue well into 2013! From animal prints such as leopard print or snake skin to pictures of actual animals on your clothes, there is a wide range ways to wear this look. And even though I'm not a huge animal lover myself, I love this trend! Check Topshop's "Queen of the Jungle" section for more ideas by clicking HERE.

3) White

After a Winter full of nothing but black items, you can expect to see a lot more white this season. I like the look a lot on people who have medium to dark skin tones, but the everyday wearability of the fully white trend for pale people like me is questionable. Topshop has gotten the ball rolling with their "White is Right" section on their website. Click HERE if you're interested!
4) Graphic

Bold shapes such as lines, squares and other geometrical prints were dominant in this season's catwalks. Be daring and go for a full on graphic look from head to toe as seen on the runways, or team one simple piece with more basic items so the look doesn't get overpowering or harsh. I love stripes and wear them all year round, so this look will be a staple for me.

5) 90's

From denim to dungarees, the Spring and Summer collections will remind me of the clothes my mother chose for me when I was 5. This is a little off putting, but the new take on the 90's style clothing is definitely an interesting one. Don't solely look for inspiration from your past wardrobe, but try 90's style shapes with modern prints and baggy fits. For the Topshop take on dungarees click HERE.

6) Oriental

I'm a huge lover of Asian culture, and to see oriental prints and kimono style dresses on the catwalks for Spring and Summer of this year made me really excited! It will be a hard look to pull off, but as soon as the new collections come out on the high street, I'm sure there'll be some way we can incorporate this beautiful style into our every day lives.

7) Neons

Bright colours are always associated with Summer time, and this year is no exception. Go neon with fluorescent pinks and lemon yellows. This will look amazing against all skin types. For a more wearable look, team one bright piece with other relatively neutral colours for an eye catching, but not overpowering look.
8) Florals

Every year we see a recurring trend of florals in the Spring and Summer time, which only makes sense, right? Accompanied with bold shades or pastel colours, there are endless prints available. Get a few key floral staples and you're sorted for the next few months...and every Spring / Summer season after that! Have a look for HERE Topshop's floral section this season.

9) Iridescent

It was the big thing in Winter, and for all of you who loved that trend, shine is still carrying forward to Spring and Summer in the form of Iridescent fabrics! Sequins and anything sparkly is a good bet too this season. A great iridescent piece will reflect the girly mood of Spring and Summer and is sure to get you noticed. I love iridescence, it gives a lovely dimension to any outfit!

10) Crops and Cut offs

As you'd imagine during the warmer half of the year approaches people will be more willing to show some extra skin. As well as cropped jackets, the catwalks were all about the midriff showing this year, and even cropped trouser legs made an appearance. Apparently for this season, cut offs are best. I like this look, but when shopping the high street it's always good to aim to stay classy and not to go full on skimpy. A simple crop top with a high waisted skirt is a simple, stylish take on this trend.
